You have been doing it your whole life…

When God was handing out talents, skills and gifts, He blessed everyone. He didn’t look at you and say, “Everyone gets a gift except you!” He blessed everyone. The pieces are falling into place now. Here’s a little secret . . . “Whatever you should be doing with your Life, you’ve been doing it your whole Life.” – Dr. Loretta Standley

Taking a writing break at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya

I read those words and I smiled. A knowing smile like, I have always had that information in me but I just now recognised it.

I have been writing since I failed English in 10th grade and my mother told the teacher to fail me so I would have to take it over during summer school. At the time I was pissed. What a waste of time to write short stories or papers about stuff you weren’t interested in. I wanted to hang out with my friends, not go to the trouble to use my brain for those kinds of things.

Now I am on “the device” as one of my friends calls my laptop…everyday. More than once a day, most times. I also write by hand in a notebook that I carry with me. I write notes in books, magazines…there are so many ideas flowing out of my head, I have to write them down so I can let go of them. My bedside table is full of journals, observations about my life and other equally…yawn…not so interesting things.

I started writing a story earlier this year about a young man who was watching a cattle drive pass close to his home. As I wrote, it turned out, the story was really about him starting his own horse under saddle and the series of events that followed that decision. I love to write.

It is comforting, therapy and entertainment all rolled into one! Kind of like eating a package of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups while driving down a winding, country road at  65 mph. An adventure maneuvering around every corner…

What have you been doing your whole life but didn’t recognize? Have you been wondering what your passion is? Just saying…

  1. Hmmm .. have to say it’s wrapping my life’s lessons up in tidy bows and presenting them to friends & family. Most get it, some don’t .. but I think that’s my “thang.”

    Fun post!

OH and cooking … making the home cozy and welcoming. That’s where it’s at for me.
