When I Ride…

Adventure poetry and yesterday’s hike photos…

One cannot stay on the summit forever –
One has to come down again.
So why bother in the first place? Just this.
What is above knows what is below –
But what is below does not know what is above

One climb, one sees,
One descends and sees no longer
But one has seen!

There is an art of conducting one’s self in
The lower regions by the memory of
What one saw higher up.

When one can no longer see,
One does at least still know.

– Rene Daumal

What is this old machine? Does anyone recognise it? It is laying next to a cultivated field.

  1. Beautiful scenery – again. I think this is going to be a reoccurring theme with you! 😉
Jake and I think that is an implement of sorts..a make-shift harrow maybe. They either pulled it behind horses or a tractor or heck, a truck? Looks like they used a bunch of different parts. Good ol’ “where there’s a will – there’s a way” thinking. Love it and the poem at the beginning.

    • I bet you’re right. One of the metal pieces on it has a date of May, 1904. I also saw Oct. 1907 so heck! That’s pretty old! They had to clear a lot of sagebrush around here.
